I’m sure there are many people on this world who just like plain vanilla ice cream flavor, (Trust me I am one among them). However, the number of people who would like to try more than one flavor together is much more than that number. What does this signify, this shows that humans love mixing things up. For example, scientists are always trying to mix elements to determine if they can come up with yet a new element That is better than the existing ones.
Why do we feel the need to combine or mix things up?
It can be because we are not satisfied with the way the things are, or we are curious to know what happens when we try to tamper with the force of nature. Many inventions would not have been possible if we had decided not to act on the very same urge of combining the knowledge, skill and the creativity. To be frank, it just makes things more interesting, isn’t it? Instead of using a simple Chair the design of which works for most, we get to use the one that is custom made. We hope that mixing things will provide us something better than ones we have.
Basic versus Artistic
We all know that beauty is in the eyes of beholder, a very accurate statement. Many like different things and sometime with exactly opposing views. This is what makes us humans different than any other living being on this planet. Is it for better or not is altogether another discussion. This is where we come to the question of Basic versus Artistic, for example – Swimming is basic life skill that is needed for one to survive whereas they Olympic game called Artistic Swimming combines Skill, Knowledge and Creativity can be considered as artistic. One is definitely not better than the other as both serve different purposes.
How to add skills, knowledge and creativity
Skill is something that we can develop, knowledge is something we can gain, and creativity is something that lies within us. One can up-skill or re-skill as needed and dictated by situations. Knowledge can be gained through years of experience and learning. Creativity can be obtained from observation and imagination. When one decides to mix all these up, we need to make sure that these are not counter intuitive but a blend. For example, if your skill is doing pushups, it makes sense if you combine that with your knowledge of fitness exercises along with creative aspects of doing pushups in the midst of nature listening to aromatic scents and calming sounds. Skill, knowledge and creativity should be added in equal proportions so that one doesn’t have influence over other factors.
Achievement of full potential
If one masters how to combine the skill, knowledge and creativity in equal proportions what happens is the generation of alpha, something that is beyond when one uses only skill, knowledge and creativity as an independent entity…Step back, check if you are using your skill to the full potential? One way of measuring it is to understand how much time is spent on something. If one is taking less time to complete an activity then that person is highly skilled. Adding the knowledge to skill provides a clear cut direction. If doesn’t matter how fast one runs if the direction is not the one intended. Past mistakes, learnings from those mistakes will help skillful people to avoid things that can derail progress. Now add on pinch of creativity then it helps one to stand out of crowd as creativity is subjective and can’t be easily copied. Enjoy the process and it would be worth it.
