Hypocrisy and Opportunistic Mentality
Some people are epitome of hypocrisy, they preach some things and turn around and do exactly the opposite. Dealing with such people is very exhausting. If you have encountered such individuals, then you know what I am talking about. Hypocrisy mostly goes with opportunistic behavior, it is very subtle to note and observe. most of the time, hypocrite people do anything just because there is a better opportunity.
For example, someone vehemently argues that certain types of food are not better for health and mental wellbeing but when they get an opportunity to explore the very same cuisine they jump in and relish it. On top of that they try to explain how it was justified for them to enjoy it.
Hypocrisy can lead to Indecisiveness
One point that compels hypocrite people to give self-surety is their indecisiveness. Incorrectly understood by them as adaptability. They can’t decide what is best for them so try to not follow what they say. It becomes a vicious circle, going in an endless loop.
Unless there is a wish to improve genuinely, it becomes tough to get out of it.
Better Coping Mechanisms than Hypocrisy
Some people genuinely have the need to use the hypocrisy as a means of coping mechanisms because of their upbringing or situations during formative years. It helps initially when there is struggle but can’t be used as a long-term solution.
Selective communication can be a helpful resource for hypocrite people using it as a coping mechanism. So is following through what they say.
Patience can be another point that helps. Patience helps us to hold thoughts before speaking, so making mistakes reduces naturally.
Principles over hypocrisy
In the world we constantly battle with ideological differences. One thing is perfectly fine in a culture and is shamed in others. How to center ourselves in a constantly changing arena. This is where principles come in handy. These can be developed over the years, or just originated out of a pure event. For example, in driving people enjoy different modes. One can decide to go easy and comfortable within speed limits either by the teachings while growing up or immediately after an accident due to the rash driving and negligence.
How can we use principles as a means to improve hypocrisy. Have a deep-rooted principle that “Won’t say something to others that I won’t follow if I could”… This definitely helps.
Closing notes
Like many other behavioral issues, hypocrisy can also be reduced or eliminated if our intention is in the right place. It’s always better to be seen as a person of principle than a hypocritical person. Everyone has experienced this some or the other time in their lifetime. All we can do is to control and manage and hope that one day we will come out of the clutches of hypocrisy.
